The Origins of Olive Oil
The olive was likely first domesticated around 4000 BC in the eastern Mediterranean. By about 1000 to 1500 BC it was industrial. There are huge presses found in echron in Israel with huge logs for leather arms that could produce something on the order of a million liters a year. The people who lived around the Mediterranean used olive oil for food but as Tom said that's not all. They weren't even just eating it, they were rubbing it all over their bodies.
