Permadeath in Roguelikes
The idea of permadeath still feels pretty radical outside of roguelikes to me and it's weird how often I find myself sort of explaining it to other people who play a lot of games just maybe not in the genre. My understanding is that that really came from a situation where like testers were just reloading a save file and trying something different so you set it up to erase the file when it was loaded so that deaths and decisions were permanent. We didn't sit down and say should this game have permadeath. The term was in use before like the mid 90s so you know a good 15 years after we supposedly invented the concept but it's I don't like the word
