Do You Recognize Unsolicited Feedback?
You want to make sure that you're listening with the intent to understand not to respond. Simplest way to do that is to ask some follow up questions. Look for the 5 or 10% of what the other person said that you can agree with and give voice to that. And then say, as for the rest of it, let me think about it and then get back to you.
