There's evidence to support the idea that if you're given a stimulus that you can't quite recover from now, you may still benefit it later once that recovery does come. I think having that kind of theoretical, but not empirical understanding of the way that physiological systems adapt could help put some of these findings into context. So anyway, those two studies, both by the same author, by Bjornsson and colleagues, definitely check them out. They're pretty cool.
