The sympathetic nervous system is the fight, flight or freeze response. The parasympathetic is the opposite. We need to be able to toggle between both of these systems because they're both important. Most people are heavily on the sympathetic dominance and don't even realize that this is happening. And so you can't have that experience until you have the other experience of really being able to breathe into your diaphragm in a more relaxed way.
