I Can't Compete With That

My mom does more than my dad to the point that I kind of try not to talk to her about it because she's always begging me to read it. And she gets really weepy because I don't let her read my work anymore. It's a little bit of a touchy subject. I think they didn't like the work I did when I was in graduate school because they were some pretty raw poems about my life and they didn't really care for that. So the whole thing, whenever I start talking about poems, they look like deers in the headlights like, oh God, please don't talk about your poems. They're painful. That is something I could talk about
