"It takes some practice to understand that because you're not going to get that probably your first tempo run or interval session, whatever," he says. "But the more you pay attention to the efforts to your RPE and the more you practice, the better you become." He doesn't track his training with a heart rate but is experienced enough to just put in the right amount of effort for each session.
