The Importance of Reparations in the War
Lloyd George and the British would be concerned primarily with preventing another war. The French leaders wanted a recompense for what they saw as an act of German aggression. Reparations had a long history in European conflicts, including during the Franco-Prussian War. For Britain and France it was very important that the number be large enough to present at home.
