The brown fat was discovered by Conrad Gesner in 1551. He described it as something that was in hibernating animals and later on researchers found out that this was actually also in humans. It's really good for increasing your temperature but as the mass of your body grows the tissue decreases in size. A baby under six months cannot activate the muscle cells to shiver so it needs a lot of brown fat to keep itself warm.
