What You See Is All There Is
One sided evidence had a very pronounced effect on judgments. Participants who saw one ided evidence were more confident of their judgments than those who saw both sides. We often fail to allow for the possibility that evidence that should be critical to our judgment is missing. Over confidence as the what you see is all there is rule implies neither the quantity nor the quality of the evidence counts for much in subjective confidence. Statistical information is often ignored in making forecasts because it tends to be less vivid, salient and interesting than specific information about the case at hand.
