Barry Gordy Jr. used a loophole to kickstart his legendary R&B record company, Motown. From 1961 to 71, Motown had 110 records in the Billboard Top 10. Michigan-based funk band Volpek wanted to go out on tour, but didn't have enough money for free admission. For every song played on Spotify, the band only received about half a cent.
