I agree with everything that you've said, unilateral is sorely lacking for most people. And it really shouldn't be because at large, you're still going to be doing the gross movement pattern. You could go single arm row. You can go for, as you said before, with split squats instead of your traditional squats. I think a lot of people are a bit insecure that they're going to leave behind their strength and possibly even size if they don't keep doing a movement that they've spent time doing. But when you introduce the bilateral movement, a bilateral squat or a row after doing single arm rows, you're going to find this new capacity to progress and improve.
