Avoidance Registers in Australian Languages

In societies where there are taboo words, sometimes vocabulary will consciously shift. It's not unheard of in certain societies for people to avoid that word and have to substitute it with another one. That is another thing. But I mean, again, the lexicon is a system and those words have to come from somewhere. And so there are originally prescribed words that you use. Sometimes they're borrowed from some of them are borrowed from neighboring languages. The origins of these words are really interesting.
