The Ambitiousness of the Biennial

This is the largest biennial today. I think it's something like what Huar told me was 163 artists, and you can double that in terms of number of works. So it was conceived by Okui with some keywords given to the artist to reflect on around this idea of the post-colonial constellation. They started with this idea of 30 years, 30 commissions. It then grew after his death to much larger because Huar wanted to see as more of a collaboration with artists that both they have worked with separately and together. And she has some emerging and established artists taking over some abandoned places as well.
