Is God's Mercy on the Gentiles?

The point is that god can do whatever he wants with his covenant. He can bring mercy and compassion on the gentiles, if that's what he so chooses. So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on god, who has mercy. And in jacob's case in particular, israel is reminded of her position as second born. She is not by virtue of her lineage to boast about being a better nation than other nations. The whole point is to redeem them in the end.
