What Are Counter Factuals?
What ifs are elicited when we have outcomes that we're not happy with. The norm is to think about a better possible outcome, what we call upward counter factuals. We imagine that things could have been better - but they weren't. This leaves us with a feeling of regret and atreasis. But those negative feelings can be motivating too. It sets up sort of a plan of behaviour so that you can correct and take control over unforeseen instances.
