The Collision Between Economics and Security in Asia
In 2012, I wrote an article with a friend of mine named Bob Manning called The Tale of Two Asians That We Published in Foreign Policy. And what we worried about was number one, the complacency. Number two, that actually economics were at risk of being refracted through the prism of security. And then third, because Bob and I are both Americans, we thought the American approach to the region was entirely to security centric. So if you think about where we are in 2023, compared to when we wrote that article in 2012, a lot of what we wrote about has basically been borne out.
