Stress and Inflammation Are Key Drivers of Aging

Stress has been shown to increase the permeability of the gut and one of the mechanisms by which this occurs is through once again the release of corticotropin releasing hormone. There are specialized immune cells present in the gut called mast cells which have receptors for cortictropin releasing hormone on them. And as soon as they become activated it's wartime I mean it literally starts a war. They these activated immune cells start firing chemical warfare  they release pro inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factor like TNF alpha that chew up and degrade some of the proteins that hold the gut epithelium together.
