In most top varieties of essential oils the number one component is mercene. If you want to know what limonene smells like go and smell a lemon because that's what limonne smells like. For instance running a eucalyptus extract um on on the mass spec you would see one huge peak, cineol or eucalyPTol which is the essence of eucalypsus.
