When you're in fight or flight, normally what happens is if you were that little deer, first you would try and run away from the lion. And again, your nervous system's mobilized to give you energy to get out of that situation. But when it doesn't work, our nervous system goes into a state of collapse or freeze. That's actually designed to protect us from that traumatic experience of being even alive by a lion.
