How to Discipline a Brother
Sally Kohn: I don't need punishment and consequences because I actually think it will undermine and be counterproductive. When my son slapped his brother on the back, we talked about it after I first comforted the brother,. then I come to the perpetrator. It's time for the discipline moment. And that's when I say, you really hurt your brother. She says she lets him feel the guilt; he relaxes into a more receptive state. The result is an experience of listening to his own mind which can lead to better behavior in the future.
