Chronotype: A Quantitative Construct

If an animal is placed in complete darkness and the biological clock continues to be measured for days on end it's actually slightly longer than 24 hours. This brings up the idea that there's variation within a species in the length of the biological day. Related to this we have to reset our clocks each day so that we can accurately align them with the 24 hour day. If you look at your core body temperature for example it fluctuates by about half a degree Celsius during sleep deprivation but if someone is allowed to sleep then the amplitude of the rhythm is slightly larger.
