The belief that you are understood, in fact, is a strong predictor of the success of your relationship. People feel more confident and safe when they think there's greater level of understanding than there actually is. I'm thinking about this also in the context of politics, politicians like Bill Clinton or Donald Trump. They're loved by their supporters in part because people feel like they understand them.
