When I was younger, I could not sustain my center. And I'd have to try to sort of overcome that in this almost psychosis that would overcome me when I'm fighting. So therefore, if I can detach from that stress and not experience it while I'm fighting and still retain my center,. then when confronted with a, you know, comparatively lesser stress in life, it's low down on that stress factor. "I think that is a major facet for martial arts training," he says.
