The American Academy Pediatrics recent guideline and our forthcoming guideline is separating a urinary tract infection from IBI. A positive urinalysis that is a presumptive UTI, an infant in the second month of life should have oral antibiotic treatment. Those infants now meeting low risk criteria are eligible for an outpatient strategy and they can be discharged ideally with follow-up arranged.
