A brand only curls.com had a negative 10% conversion rate, which is below the average for new sites. The site didn't have a hero section or value proposition and just said "get your perfect curls" This was an example of why best practices are probably wrong when it comes to looking at a company's Web site - you don't know enough about their customers.
