I think there is something in there about the need to have that behavior. And maybe it was really useful at a time. 30 years ago, somebody may have needed you to talk to them like that. But we have to be clear about who we're talking to and what our intention is with this person. Just giving it a thoughtful pause so that you come up with the right information.
