It appears, at least from the conversations I've had with people who are behind the scenes and wielding influence in the West, is that nothing short of the 2014 boundaries would be considered acceptable. In private, what they say is this is a public posture because they don't want to seed ground to Putin before it's necessary. After all, you know, you have East European governments, notably the Poles and the Poles, who are now part of the West. They wield enormous influence in NATO and increasingly in the European Union. And they are determined to, yes, indeed, carry on this war to the end. If possible, destroy Russia as a state for historical emotional reasons.
What the governments and media are saying in public is quite different to what they may be saying in private. Anatol Lieven, former war correspondent joins us to discuss the question of Crimea and how different the discussions in private are compared to what we hear in the public eye.
