Venture capitalists were trying to buy a company that was valued at five million dollars. But when they didn't hit their growth targets, the firm had to lay people off and raise more money. This is an example of how aggressive investment can backfire if you don't achieve your goals. In this case, it meant hiring lots of great salespeople who just couldn't be effective or hit targets.
