CHAPTER

Lee Iacocca, Ford's Vice President

In 1965, Lee Iacocca became Ford's vice president of the corporate car and truck group. By 1968, he'd successfully launched two new cars which had transformed Lincoln Mercury's prospects. It seemed it was only a matter of time before Lee got the job he coveted most, President of Ford. But in December of 1970, Henry turned to his protege and appointed Lee as President of the Ford Motor Company. He did not yet know whether Henry viewed him as heir to the throne or as a threat to his power. Experiencing the news like each day can feel like 'the end of an era'
