When i was a student, i really believed, almost literally, in the principal agent models that we were learning at he university. I think one reason is what we discussedalre, a lot of people have intrinsic motivation to do a good job. Another reason is this, if you talk to people who work in firms or organizations and you ask them, what's your biggest challenge, they usually say, recruiting and hanging on to good people. So they i that actually selection is very important rather than incentives.
