It turns out that cognitive reserve is just as important to the brain as physical reserve. The more movement reserve you have, the longer you can tolerate the insult of neurodegeneration before you start showing symptoms. Doing things that have many more moving pieces and requires much more of the brain do tend to boost cognitive reserve. It also gives us some protection against cognitive decline.
