How to Frame Against Your Opponent Effectively
You only really want to straight arm your opponent in my opinion. If you have high confidence that your arm is safe in doing so. You can also frame with your leg, the knee shield probably being the most common way that you frame against your opponent to recover guard. So it's not just your hands that you can use to block the force vector. It's also your legs. Everything that I teach in Jiu Jitsu always comes back to posture base.
