Psychologists call this non-complementary behavior. This is what Jesus got turning the other cheek, right? And there's quite some evidence from psychology that then you can turn an vicious circle or something that's going in the wrong direction. You can actually bring out the best in people who didn't trust you or didn't like you before. But to get to where you want to go from where we are would require a tremendous commitment to non-com complementary behavior. That's a really hard ask.
