The Role of Satellite Cells in Muscle Growth

Satellite cells are kind of left over stem cells from development if you like. They prefer to make muscle I mean you can perhaps force them to make other things in cell culture but basically that's what they do when injured. Their stem cell like properties come from the fact that they can maintain their own cell numbers so, first of all they're activated and they divide. Not all of those cells will fuse to become the new muscle fiber or fuse in with an existing muscle fibers some of them will go back to being satellite cells for your whole life.
