Understanding Calorie Density of Food

High fat whole foods will provide more energy calories for any given volume than other whole foods. One tablespoon of peanut butter or avocado provides more calories than say one tablespoon of blueberries or rice and this is because fat is more energy dense than carbohydrates and protein. The fact that fat is more calorie dense isn't something to fear but more something to simply be aware of as you can use this to your advantage depending on your overall weight goal.
