When your state of mind is generally optimistic, you're better able to handle everyday stresses in a more constructive way. So if you turn to have a negative outlook, maybe like me holding myself accountable. It won't change overnight, but with practice, your self talk will contain less self criticism and more self tence and self compassion. And you may also just become less critical of the world around you.
