The L Sound Was Lost in Many Native Words

The l sound was lost in many native english words like palm, psalm and salmon. Even after an l was re introduced in the spelling, the l sound remains silent. Some people may say salmon to day thanks to the revised spelling, but the standard pronunciation omits the l sound. The same thing happened with words like fault, valt and assault. All of those words had an l in their original latin forms. And over time, some of those lone words got their original ls back.
