The History of Metalin Blue

The first synthetic chemical used for a medicinal application in the history of medicine and pharmacology was metalin blue. The parasite that produces malaria, the plasmodium falciparum, had an inside that was particularly vulnerable to not much large concentrations of metalin blue were enough to affect this enzyme. So metalin blue became the first, and for a long time, the only treatment for malaria. It also helped develop chlorpromising as the first antipsychotic medication. And that would change completely the face of psychiatry.
