Forgiveness and putting yourself in the same situation needs to have a second mechanism. There's a great psychological emotional freeing that happens when you're like, "I can forgive because I know how to take care of me" And so if we are holding hatred and contempt for other people for our own protection, there's a freeing mechanism that happens when we can see how we can let go of that as long as we can take care of ourselves.
