The George Bailey Exercise
Psychologist James pannebaker asked people to write about tramatic experience they've had trouble recovering from, and he asked them to write about it for two or three nights in a rowh. He says the act of writing really can trigure a reframing of our experiences. The george bailey exercise asks people to think about ways in which a treasured person or experience might not have occurred. It's kind of a paradoxical, but thinking about that negative part of it made people more grateful for what they have.
