The Reformation: A Conflicting Series of Traditions
King Henry VIII of England seized on reform for essentially political reasons. In Switzerland, a Zurich priest named Haudrick's Vingli inaugurated a much different but kind of related reform program. True radicals preached total social transformation and preparation for a coming apocalypse. Other radicals followed an entirely inwardly focused piety that wanted absolutely nothing to do with the exterior world.
