You don't have to choose to constantly attend to these negative thoughts that are totally normal and just come up. Most initial thoughts really are just a reaction to something that happens external to us or internal to us. So it's a response to an event or a previous thought that came before it. And noticing this tendency lets you deconstruct these thought patterns a little bit, break them into little digestible pieces.
