The Natural Experiment of the Queen's Death

For three consecutive years, Queen Victoria didn't take part in the season. On a normal year, around 6,000 people would attend different parties organized by the Queen. In 1862, for example, there is basically no royal parties organized. No younger was presented at court, no younger was announced to the marriage market.
