The Effect of Group Think on Decision Making

In groups, we often feel this pressure to conform to the opinions of the majority. This can override our individual motivation to think critically and creatively. Group Think discourages people from expressing original ideas or challenging the status quo. As a result, the group may come to hasty or irrational decisions. The collapse of Enron is a good example as executives irrationally believed their unethical accounting practices would remain hidden. Margaret Thatcher had little or no capacity for self-criticism which she exacerbated by dismissing anyone from office who was brave enough to disagree with her.
