The Hittites, Egyptians and Babylonians were the great East Mediterranean power. The friction between those two powers in the 14th and 13th centuries took place along the coast of the Levant. You have the Mycians and the non-themonians on the Western fringes. Was there anything that we could say characterised these kingdoms? They're not democracies, that's for sure.
