Marianne: My angry part doesn't feel like an exile. It feels more like a firefighter. So typically when you see firefighter parts getting really angry, it's because that anger is serving to distract from some experience that seems really, really threatening. Marianne: We want to be able to connect with parts in a way that's calm and led by the innermost self. And then we can give them other options so that the goods that they seek for us can be had without maladaptive means or harmful means.
