When an associate does something wrong, he needs to ask permission from the firm. He should then explain his actions in a way that makes it seem more serious than it really is. If you're not yet partners and are dealing with liability issues, this can get complicated very fast. But i would make the case of explaining your company that be careful of making this a bigger deal than it is.
