The Impact of Early Speaked Language
Do you reckon we should make a much bigger deal about the importance of those kind of conversations between parents and young children? To the extent, maybe then, on buses, you've got posters saying, hey, why not talk to your child today, can't have stuff? Have I missed a trick? Or have I missed all this information either already? No, I think it's certainly the case that we can't possibly overestimate the impact that those early relationships and how they manifest in a spoken form. There is an excellent book called How Children Learn Language by William O'Grady which emphasizes the power and the value of these early interactions.
