Ventilatory Muscle Training
The masks don't simulate altitude, but they may not be terrible for training when you're planning on doing something at altitude. Ventilatory muscles can fatigue a it's actually like a somewhat important thing for competitive swimmers because the pressure of the water pushes in on your rib cage. A mask that is basically designed to make it harder to breathe isn't relevant if you're not mountaineering.
